Hathurusingha cites BCB claims as allegations only

Suspended Bangladesh national team head coach Chandika Hathurusingha claimed the reasons highlighted by the Bangladesh Cricket Board for termination of his contract as “just allegations”.

BCB president Faruk Ahmed Tuesday announced immediate suspension of Hathurusingha from his role as head coach and that following a 48 hours’ notice period the contract will be terminated.

BCB chief Faruk cited two chief reasons for issuing the suspension – physically abusing a player during the 2023 Cricket World Cup and an extended period of leaves without following the protocol.

Hathurusingha in reply to a query by a leading newspaper of the country regarding the matter said: “These are allegations only, I'll answer them at the right time.”

Hathurusingha began his second stint as the Bangladesh head coach in January 2023, signing a two-year contract.

However, the tenure has been full of controversies with Faruk finally opening the pandora’s box in public.

Apart from the reasons mentioned by Faruk, former Sri Lanka cricketer Hathurusingha is culpable for triggering disputes in the national dressing room, resulting in an unhealthy atmosphere.

Hathurusingha has been infamous for abusing power within the BCB office premises due to being close to former board president Nazmul Hasan.
