The Platinum Cup - a bankers’ cricket tournament - celebrated its jersey and trophy unveiling in Dhaka Thursday.
The tournament has three significant people as its Goodwill Ambassadors - former Bangladesh Bank Deputy Governor Muhammad Ali (Rumee), former Bangladesh cricketer Yousuf Rahman Babu and former sports organizer and Swadhin Bangla football team manager Tanveer Muzhar Tanna.
Launched by Leo Entertainment Sports Management, the tournament body on the night, recognized and awarded some former iconic Bangladesh cricketers like Yousuf Rahman, Syed Ashraful Haq, Jahangir Shah Badshah and Noushir Hasan for their contribution to country’s cricket and for maintaining the honor and dignity of the game.
Former fast bowler Mahmudul Hasan Rana (EBL), who played the Tigers’ inaugural Test match in 2000, Neeyamur Rashid Rahul (MTB), who featured in the 1999 World Cup, and Mehrab Hossain Opee (Dhaka Bank), Bangladesh’s first ODI centurion, were also among the awarded.
The seven participating banks in the 100-ball format tournament are - BRAC Bank, Dhaka Bank, Eastern Bank, HSBC, Mercantile Bank, Prime Bank and Trust Bank.
Starting from September 27 all matches will be played at Masco Cricket Ground.
Senior officials of the banks were present at the glittering night alongside chief guests Rumee and Tanna.
