BCB vows to address demands made by district cricketers

Bangladesh Cricket Board director Nazmul Abedeen Fahim has assured that the board will strive to meet the demands of division and district-based cricketers.

Cricketers from various districts gathered at the BCB premises Sunday to present a 17-point list of demands to the board, which is now led by president Faruk Ahmed.

Around 300 cricketers from different parts of the country assembled at the BCB office in the Sher-e-Bangla National Stadium.

The cricketers first congratulated the newly appointed BCB president, Faruk, and then pressed for their demands to be fulfilled.

“The board will try to implement measures that benefit the country’s cricket. This includes starting leagues in the divisions, forming teams, and ensuring proper pitches in the divisions. And when it comes to player welfare and increasing competition, the decisions must be systematically fair. The cricket board will definitely look into these matters and will be monitoring them closely. What I can assure you is that the board will try to do what is necessary within its capabilities. It’s important to ensure that you are evaluated based on merit and that you have some level of certainty,” said Fahim, who joined the BCB as a director last month.

The cricketers, in their demands, called for a fixed schedule for domestic leagues and the introduction of a second-tier team in the National Cricket League.

They also pushed for the inclusion of all three formats of the game in the First Division and suggested that players should be selected based on their performances in the second and third-division tournaments, with a structured pay scale.

Additionally, the cricketers demanded that contractual agreements with clubs be handled professionally and called for improvements in the quality of umpiring.
