Bangladesh veteran batter Mushfiqur Rahim’s match-winning knock in the first Test against Pakistan in Rawalpindi has helped him advance seven places to a career-best 17th position in the ICC Test batting rankings.
Mushfiq was pivotal in Bangladesh’s historic 10-wicket win over Pakistan with his 191-run innings.
The right-handed batter faced 341 deliveries and had spent a drenching 522 minutes in the middle before falling short of his fourth Test double hundred by nine runs.
This was Bangladesh's maiden Test win against Pakistan and a rare one away from home.
Leading into this game, they had won just two Tests on foreign soil in the last seven years.
On the other hand, England batter Harry Brook has moved up to fourth spot and Mohammad Rizwan reached career-best position in the Test batting rankings after their fine performances over the past week.
Pakistan’s Rizwan is in the top 10 for the first time after scores of 171 not out and 51.
Brook’s scores of 56 and 32 in the first match of their World Test Championship series against Sri Lanka in Manchester has lifted him three places to fourth position, just one adrift of his career-best third position attained following his second-innings century against the West Indies at Trent Bridge last month.
Others to move up the Test rankings include Sri Lanka batters Dinesh Chandimal (up four places to 23rd) and Kamindu Mendis (up eight places to 36th), Bangladesh’s Liton Das (up two places to 27th) and England’s Jamie Smith (up 22 places to 42nd).
