Mushfiq donates prize money to flood victims

Veteran Bangladesh batter Mushfiqur Rahim donated the prize money from his man of the match award to the flood affected people back home following the Tigers’ historic victory over Pakistan in the first Test in Rawalpindi Sunday.

At least 5,209,798 people have been stranded in 73 upazilas under 11 flood-hit districts till Sunday afternoon, according to the Disaster Management and Relief Ministry.

So far, 18 people have died as flood wreaked havoc in the following districts - Feni, Comilla, Chittagong, Khagrachhari, Noakhali, Moulvibazar, Habiganj, Brahmanbaria, Sylhet, Lakshmipur and Cox’s Bazar.

“This prize money, I just want to donate, you know, in our Bangladesh, to the flood-affected people. So, I want to donate this prize money to that and also, I just want to request all the people back home, and those who can donate, to also help in this cause," said Mushfiq at the presentation ceremony during the fifth and final day of the first of two Test matches.

Bangladesh recorded a memorable 10-wicket win for their first ever Test victory against Pakistan in 14 attempts.

This was also the Tigers’ seventh away Test win in their history.

Player of the match Mushfiq played a starring role with the willow, scoring 191 to guide Bangladesh to 565 in the first innings, their highest ever Test total against Pakistan.

The 37-year old’s 11th Test ton, and first against Pakistan, was composed with 22 fours and a six.
