Nazmul resigns, Faruk elected new BCB president

Nazmul Hasan, president of the Bangladesh Cricket Board, has decided to step down from his position and will be succeeded by former national cricket team captain Faruk Ahmed.

The decision had been speculated for several days, but the exact timing and manner of his resignation remained unclear until Wednesday, when he finalized his decision during an online board meeting, a source within the BCB confirmed.

A BCB director said: "Following Nazmul's resignation, the directors elected a new board president. Former cricketer and chief selector Faruk was chosen as the board president."

The sudden board meeting was convened in light of the overall situation in the country's cricket.

Along with Nazmul’s resignation, significant changes are expected in other key positions within the BCB.

Nazmul was appointed as the BCB chief by the government in 2012.

In October 2013, he was elected as president.

After that, he served as BCB president for three consecutive terms.

On August 5, following the government's fall, Nazmul lost his position as minister of youth and sports, with Asif Mahmud Sajeeb Bhuiyan taking over as interim sports adviser.

Nazmul had been serving as a member of parliament for Kishoreganj-6 since 2009 and took on the role of Minister of Youth and Sports in January.

He had simultaneously managed his duties as the BCB president.

The current BCB executive committee, led by Nazmul, was set to complete its term in October next year.
