Bangladesh Cricket Board director and chairman of cricket operations committee, Jalal Younus has resigned from his post at the country’s cricket governing body.
Nominated by the National Sports Council in the current board under the leadership of Nazmul Hasan, veteran sports organizer Jalal has confirmed his resignation to the NSC and BCB through email.
The NSC has also asked its other nominated BCB director Ahmed Sajjadul Alam Bobby to resign.
It is understood that Sajjadul has not responded to the NSC on the matter and if anything has to be done, it shall be from the NSC itself.
Former cricketer turned sports organizer Jalal informed the media that he had received a call from NSC additional secretary Aminul Islam to visit the NSC office.
When Jalal asked for the reason, the official informed that the NSC wants him to resign as BCB counselor and director.
Jalal later through an email tendered his resignation.
Jalal has been part of the BCB since 1997 (except for five years from 2005) and worked at vital roles.
“I have decided to resign for the betterment of cricket in the country and so that someone new comes. I hope BCB will be able to operate well in the days ahead,” said Jalal to the media.
Sajjadul on the other hand first started working in the BCB in 1983 till 1991.
Due to changes in political scenario, he was away for some time and returned in 2007.
Sajjadul is the chairman of the tournament committee of the current BCB.
Sajjadul said he has also received call from the NSC but left the decision on the authority to take and that he is not going to resign.
It is understood that former cricketer Faruk Ahmed and cricket coach/expert Nazmul Abedeen Fahim are to take the two places nominated by the BCB.
Faruk is among the frontrunners to become the next BCB president.
The BCB stumbled into uncertainty after the fall of Sheikh Hasina government on August 5.
BCB president Nazmul along with many other influential directors of the board are out of reach since the fall of the Awami League government.
The cricketing arena of the country has been passing a curious time since.
It was reported recently that Nazmul decided to step down from the position which he has been holding since 2013.
