Tigresses concede ODI series to Australia

Bangladesh women’s team conceded the three-match One Day International series to Australia with a match to go when they suffered a six-wicket defeat at the hands of the visitors in the second game Sunday at Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium.

The Tigresses, as they are adorably called, tasted a 118-run defeat in the first clash.

They were all out for 95 in the first encounter and kept the trend of being bowled out below hundred in the second tie too as they were dismissed for 97 in 44.1 overs after opting to bat first.

No. 9 batter Nahida Akter was the top-scorer for the home side with 22 while Fahima Khatun (11) and Ritu Moni (10) were the two other players to reach double digit.

But what aided them was that they got 20 runs from extras, which took them closer to 100-run mark.

Sophie Molineux wrecked havoc on Bangladesh women’s team, having registered figure of 10-5-10-3.

Ashleigh Gardner, Alana King and Georgia Wareham claimed two wickets apiece.

Australian women’s side raced to 98/4 in 23.5 overs to take an unassailable 2-0 lead with star batter Ellyse Perry leading the charge with 35 not out.

Ashleigh Gardner was unbeaten on 20.

Sultana Khatun and Rabeya Khan took one wicket apiece.

The third and final ODI is slated for Wednesday at the same venue after which the two teams will play a three-match Twenty20 international series.
