Nazmul: There is nothing in the probe report

Bangladesh Cricket Board president Nazmul Hasan has brushed off all speculation that has made the rounds in the cricket fraternity over the report from the three-member special committee to look into the performance of the Bangladesh national team in the 2023 Cricket World Cup in India.

The committee's objective was to scrutinize the factors which contributed to the team's underperformance in the International Cricket Council event, and subsequently present its findings to the board.

Bangladesh had travelled to India for the world event with high hopes but as it happened, the side finished eighth among 10 teams, winning only two of their nine matches.

The committee after speaking to the players and individuals from the national team management submitted the report in the previous BCB Board of Directors Meeting, held on February 12, to the BCB chief but with confidentiality.

It was widely spoken within the board that the report contains findings that should remain within the BCB boss.

This had upset some of the BCB directors and rumors soon spread in the board office and outside that there are harsh findings on players, head coach Chandika Hathurusingha and board director Khaled Mahmud Sujon who had travelled to India with the side as the team director.

This triggered Mahmud to make aggressive comments targeting the findings of the report.

“I have got a report from the convenor [of the committee Enayet Hossain Siraj]. There is simply no name of a director in the report, there is not even a word on a director. I have read the full report in front of some directors like Jalal Younus and Sujon. I have told them to point to me where it is written regarding directors. So, there is nothing else for us to do if people are making comments despite being this open about it,” said Nazmul to the media following the board meeting at Sher-e-Bangla National Stadium Saturday.

Nazmul claimed the board has already started working as prescribed in the report of the three-member committee and that some of the works are visible.

“The work has already started; you shall be able to understand. You must have seen the difference by now. I have told [the board] to circulate the report [to the directors]. I have read the report to the two directors who were being claimed to be part of the failure of the team,” Nazmul informed.
