Tamim dedicates BPL win to Mahmudullah, Mushfiq

Fortune Barishal captain Tamim Iqbal has dedicated his side’s maiden Bangladesh Premier League Twenty20 win to his veteran teammates Mushfiqur Rahim and Mahmudullah.

Barishal defeated four-time champions Comilla Victorians by six wickets in the finale of the 10th BPL at Sher-e-Bangla National Stadium Friday.

The occasion is the first for Mushfiq and Mahmudullah to win a BPL title.

Tamim when called to speak as the captain of Barishal during the prize-giving ceremony invited Mushfiq and Mahmudullah to the podium.

Speaking to the media following the emphatic win, Tamim informed that both Mushfiq and Mahmudullah deserve equal credit for Barishal’s success.

“It is always fantastic to win but this time it was a bit different. There are a few players in the team like from the young ones Mehedi Hasan Miraz, Soumya [Sarkar] or among the experienced ones Mushfiq and Mahmudullah who have played a lot for the country but never won a BPL trophy. So, I always wanted to dedicate this to them if we could win,” Tamim revealed.

Explaining his reason behind dedicating the trophy to Mushfiq and Mahmudullah, Tamim said: “Miraz and others still have a lot to play and can win BPL but to be honest the stage that Mushfiq and Mahmudullah are at right now, they both are performing but you don’t know for how long it will go on. So, it has been the best thing to happen for the two of them.”

With 492 runs, Tamim finished as the highest run-scorer in the seven-team competition and was also named the player of the tournament for the way he led Barishal to the triumph.

Mushfiq ended up with 380 runs.

Barishal had faced harsh criticism after they had formed a team involving veterans like Mahmudullah and Mushfiq.

Many had even termed the side as the “Team of the Olds”.
