Bangladesh suffered a heartbreaking 36-run loss to Sri Lanka in the final of the Under-19 Women’s Tri-Nation Twenty20 series in Cox’s Bazar Friday.
The young Tigresses had stormed into the final after beating the Lankans and Pakistan twice each in the round-robin phase but came up short when it mattered the most.
The tourists batted first and posted a competitive 148 for the loss of three wickets riding on openers Nethmi Poorna Senaratna’s unbeaten 66 and Dewmi Vihanga Wijeratne’s 49.
In reply, the hosts were restricted to 112 for eight, Rabeya Khan’s 31 and Unnoti Akter’s 14 eventually only reducing the margin of defeat.
