Tourists Bangladesh got off to a positive start in their tour of New Zealand, defeating a NZ XI by 26 runs in the lone 50-over warm-up game at Bert Sutcliffe Oval in Lincoln Thursday.
Batting first, Bangladesh, with four half-centuries in the innings, posted 334 runs on the board before getting all out with a ball to spare.
Openers Anamul Haque and Tanzid Hasan put on 47.
The partnership broke with Anamul’s departure on 33 off 26 deliveries before Soumya Sarkar came out to bat at No 3.
Left-handed batter Soumya scored 59 off 56, composed with eight fours and a six, before making his way to the dressing room.
Tanzid also got a fifty, hitting 58 off 46, featuring five boundaries and four maximums, while captain Liton Das struck 55 off 63 with five fours and a six.
Bangladesh reached the big total riding on Rishad Hossain's 54-ball 87, studded with 11 boundaries and four sixes, at No 7.
Towhid Hridoy was the only specialist batter to not get runs on the day after getting out for a duck in the fifth ball he faced.
Samrath Singh topped the bowling chart for NZ XI as the right-arm seamer picked up four wickets conceding 73.
Defending the target, Bangladesh dismissed the opposition for 308 in 49.2 overs.
Rishad came up with an all-round performance as he bagged three scalps, while Afif Hossain also notched three.
NZ XI skipper Bharat Popli top-scored with 92 off 90 while Sandeep Patel made 89 off 77.
Bangladesh will face hosts New Zealand in three One Day Internationals and as many Twenty20 Internationals.
The ODI series will begin with the first game in Dunedin Sunday.
The second and third ODI will be played on December 20 and 23 in Nelson and Napier respectively.
The three T20Is will be held on December 27, 29 and 31 respectively.
