Leg-spinner Shorna Akter starred with the ball as visitors Bangladesh women's team registered a historical victory against hosts South Africa in the first Twenty20 International by 13 runs in Benoni Sunday.
This win is Bangladesh's second in T20I format over South Africa, and first in 11 years, and also the first ever in any format on South African soil.
Chasing 150 to win, South Africa were restricted to 136 runs for the loss of eight wickets in 20 overs as all-rounder Shorna bagged five wickets.
The 16-year old Shorna took two wickets each in the 18th and 20th over including the important wicket of Anneke Bosch who was South Africa's top-scorer with 67.
Nahida Akter, Fahima Khatun and Rabeya Khan took one wicket each for Bangladesh.
Shorna was adjudged player of the match for her match-winning bowling spell of 4-0-28-5.
Earlier, Bangladesh opted to bat first after winning the toss and opener Murshida Khatun played an anchoring role to get the tourists to 149/2 in their 20 overs.
The left-handed Murshida was unbeaten on 62 off 59 as she registered her fourth half-century in the format.
Murshida struck six boundaries and one six in her brilliant innings.
Bangladesh captain Nigar Sultana also provided the much-needed push in the late stage of the innings to reach a competitive total with an unbeaten quick-fire 21-ball 34 composed of half a dozen boundaries.
The Tigresses will face the hosts Wednesday in Kimberley in the second game of the three-match T20I series.
