The West Indies took a 1-0 lead in the five-match Twenty20 international series after beating India by four runs in Thursday’s first game in Tarouba.
Chasing 150, the Indians were restricted to 145/9 in their 20 overs with debutant Tilak Varma top-scoring for his side with a 22-ball 39, studded with two fours and three sixes.
Obed McCoy, Jason Holder and Romario Shepherd bagged two wickets each for the Windies.
Earlier, captain Rovman Powell scored the highest 48 as the home side posted 149/6 after batting first.
Powell hit three fours and three sixes in his 32-ball knock after Nicholas Pooran fell for 41, but the hosts were restricted to only 21 off the final three overs.
Pooran was coming off a match-winning 137 not out in last week's Major League Cricket final in the United States for Mumbai Indians-backed MI New York.
Leg-spinner Yuzvendra Chahal trapped Kyle Mayers leg-before for one and removed fellow opener Brandon King (28) the same way two balls later.
Johnson Charles added just three before slicing a catch to Tilak in the deep off left-arm wrist-spinner Kuldeep Yadav.
Pooran and Powell gave the innings some momentum before both holed out either side of Shimron Hetmyer's dismissal for 10.
Tilak, a 20-year old batter, was handed his India debut while seamer Mukesh Kumar also won his first T20I cap after featuring in the second Test match last month and subsequent One Day International series; both turning out to be his debut games.
India won the two-Test series 1-0 before beating the West Indies 2-1 in the ODIs.
The second T20I will be held Sunday in Providence.
