Bangladesh One Day International captain Tamim Iqbal is set to reach Dhaka Monday following treatment of his injured lumbar, also known as lower back, in London.
Tamim had travelled to England last Monday and following consultation with the spine specialist underwent invasive pain management procedure which involved taking two injections to his injured Lumbar 4 and 5.
The first injection was pushed last Thursday and following observation Tamim took the second a day later.
The doctors believe Tamim will have some respite from the pain and thus the cricketer has decided to return home.
Tamim had two options to treat the injury – pain management through injection and operation.
But an operation, which is a long-term solution to the injury, would rule him out of action for at least three months, thus making himself unavailable for the two upcoming major tournaments – the Asia Cup 2023 and Cricket World Cup 2023.
As per advice from the doctor, Tamim upon reaching Dhaka will be in a week-long rest and can then slowly start training.
The success of the two injections can only be determined once the southpaw starts training in full intensity.
In case the pain reappears, Tamim has the option of taking a third injection but that will be the final one.
According to the doctors, a person cannot take more than three injections in a year.
Alongside recovering from the injury, all eyes will be on Tamim for his meeting with the Bangladesh Cricket Board.
Tamim in an interview with Dhaka Tribune earlier this month had revealed that he is looking forward to “an important meeting” with BCB director and chairman of the cricket operations committee Jalal Younus.
Tamim did not reveal the agendas but it is understood that the opening batsman is set to draw his way ahead with the board following his retirement saga.
Tamim earlier this month had rocked the cricket world announcing sudden retirement from the international arena amid wide discussion of his form and fitness.
The left-handed batter however, had to reverse his decision within 28 hours following intervention of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina.
