Mohammedan lift women’s title

Mohammedan Sporting Club won the 5th Women’s Club Cricket tournament by beating Sheikh Jamal Dhanmondi club by seven wickets. The win saw Mohammedan complete a hat- trick of titles Wednesday at the Dhanmondi cricket stadium.

Chasing the small total of 130, high flying Mohammedan reached the target easily, with captain and tournament leading scorer Salma Khatun guiding her team to the victory with an unbeaten 42. Middle order batsmen Jahanara Alam was the other player at the crease when the target was reached and she remained 21 not out, with seven overs left to be bowled.

Earlier, Sheikh Jamal skipper Jahanara Alam won the toss and elected to bat first. Jamal kept losing wickets at regular intervals and were cut down to 72-5. Reshma Akhter (24) and Suborna Islam (22) helped the batting side at the end to a total of 129/8 of 40 overs. Tahin Tahera took two wickets for 11 runs while Salma, Sathira and Sukhtara took a wicket each for Mohammedan.
