Steyn advises Bangladesh to play more away T20s

South African pace bowling legend Dale Steyn suggested Bangladesh to play more T20 cricket away from home in order to improve in the format.

Steyn, as a member of the commentary panel, witnessed Bangladesh’s poor show against South Africa at Sheikh Zayed Stadium Tuesday.

Bangladesh, who were asked to bat first, got all out scoring just 84 runs, their sixth lowest total in the format, and then saw the Proteas chase down the target losing four wickets and 39 balls in hand in the Group 1 game in Super 12.

Bangladesh are winless after four games in the stage and will face Australia in their final group match before returning home.

Bangladesh’s below par performance in the ongoing T20 World Cup has put the team management and policies drawn to improve in the shortest game of cricket under question.

“Look I can’t remember when was the last time Bangladesh played against South Africa in T20s away from home. If you want to improve as a team in this format or any other format you have to play more matches away from your home,” Steyn told the media during a friendly chat after the game in Abu Dhabi.

“If you keep playing in the comforts of home and exploiting the home condition it won’t give you a long-term benefit. Like whenever Bangladesh play outside their comfort zone, they will gain more experience and exposure and will realize what to do in such situations,” he added.

The 38-year old Steyn said Bangladesh team has the potential to become a better unit but for that to happen they have to work accordingly.

“No doubt Bangladesh are a very good side but things are not going your way in this tournament. Obviously, it’s a huge disappointment for the Bangladeshi fans. You have got some very good players and I believe Bangladesh can be a better T20 team in the coming days,” said Steyn.
