Talking point: Should Liton be dropped and replaced by Soumya?

Despite Liton Das' poor performance in the last 12 T20I innings in 2021, Bangladesh team management has put its trust on him time and again.

Liton has scored only 131 runs in his last 12 innings with an average of 10.91 and strike rate of 100.76.

But it was understood that head coach Russell Domingo prefers Liton at the top of the order and for the other opening spot one of Soumya Sarkar and Mohammad Naim was chosen.

Soumya got the chance to open the batting in the first qualifier match against Scotland and later he was dropped.

Naim has scored two half centuries in this T20 World Cup and his position looks to be solid as an opener.

Perhaps it's the right time to drop Liton as he is struggling with the bat, and opt for Soumya-Naim pair in the coming matches.

Compared to Liton’s 131 runs in 12 innings, Soumya has scored 229 runs with three 50+ innings in 13 innings with an average of 17.61 and strike rate of 113.36.

Soumya’s stats might not be too impressive compared to Liton but Soumya’s inclusion in the playing XI as an opener might be more fruitful for Bangladesh in the remaining part of the Super 12.
