Narayanganj win National Cricket Championship for second time

Narayanganj won the 33rd National Cricket Championship 2012-13 yesterday by beating Faridpur district by six wickets at the Shahid Chandu stadium in Bogra yesterday. The win was Narayanganj’s second triumph in the tournament. Faridpur captain and national discard Talha Jubair won the toss and elected to bat first. The decision proved to be unfruitful as the Narayanganj bowlers took hold of the match and bowled Faridpur out for 109 in 42.3 overs. Md Asif top scored with 29 not out and opening batsman Arafat Sunny Jr. made 20 for the batting side, while eventual man of the match Taibur Parvez picked up five wickets for 16 runs and captain Sajib Datta snared three wickets for 18 for the bowling side. In replay, Narayanganj chased down the total in 22.3 overs to claim the title. Opener Jony Talukdar made 20 and Taibur once again stepped up to remain unbeaten on 29 for the champions. The tournament began on 7 June and all 64 districts of the country participated in the event. Narayanganj had previously claimed their first title in 1997/98 by beating Chittagong in the final.
