Dominant Tigers register biggest ODI win, defeat Ireland by 183 runs

Bangladesh secured their biggest margin of victory, by 183 runs, against visiting Ireland during the first of three One Day Internationals at Sylhet International Cricket Stadium Saturday.

Chasing a huge total of 339 to win, Ireland openers made a promising start as Paul Stirling and Stephen Doheny put on 60 from 11 overs.

But Shakib al Hasan made the breakthrough in the 12th over and later Ireland faced a mini collapse where they were reduced to 75/5 from 60 for nought.

Eventually, they were bowled out for 155 in 30.5 overs as George Dockrell was their top-scorer with 45 runs.

Ebadot Hossain took four wickets conceding 42 runs, Nasum Ahmed three and Taskin Ahmed two.

Mushfiqur Rahim was sharp behind the stumps as he took five catches to equal his record of most catches taken in an innings for Bangladesh.

Earlier, Bangladesh posted 338 losing eight wickets in their stipulated 50 overs.

This was Bangladesh's highest total in their ODI history as the previous best came against Australia (333/8) in 2019.

Ireland skipper Andrew Balbirnie had won the toss and elected to field first.

Tigers lost skipper Tamim Iqbal (three) early while Liton Das (26) and Nazmul Hossain Shanto (25) followed soon after as at one stage, Bangladesh were 81 for three after 17 overs.

But Shakib and debutant Towhid Hridoy then formed a 135-run partnership for the fourth wicket to turn the tables for Bangladesh.

Shakib got out after scoring 93 off 89 balls with nine boundaries and along the way became the second Bangladesh batsman to reach the 7,000 ODI run landmark.

After Shakib's departure, Hridoy added a quickfire 80-run stand with Mushfiq.

Hriody missed a great chance to score a century on debut as he was dismissed on 92 off 85 with eight fours and two sixes while Mushfiq hit 44 off 26 with three fours and as many sixes.
