Nazmul: Shakib, others didn’t apply for IPL NOC yet

Star all-rounder Shakib al Hasan, top-order batter Liton Das and left-arm fast bowler Mustafizur Rahman are the three Bangladesh cricketers picked up for the upcoming Indian Premier League Twenty20.

Shakib and Liton were auctioned to Kolkata Knight Riders while Mustafizur was retained by Delhi Capitals in the money-spinning tournament, scheduled to begin on March 31.

However, none of the cricketers have applied for the No Objection Certificate, informed Bangladesh Cricket Board president Nazmul Hasan.

While speaking on the matter in December last year, Nazmul had informed that no cricketers will be given NOC for IPL if it clashes with international series.

But following Bangladesh's historic T20I series win against England Sunday, Nazmul slightly drifted from his previous statement, saying he will look into the matter when the players apply for the NOC.

“It [IPL 2023] still has time. There has been no discussion on this. First let them [players] come and speak to the board, we can take a decision then. I do not want to hear anything on that at the moment,” said the BCB chief.

Bangladesh are set to host Ireland for three one-day internationals, three T20Is and one Test at home starting later this month till April 8.

Following a small break, Bangladesh will then travel to Ireland by end of April for three ODIs and four T20Is.

There are discussions doing the rounds that Shakib is mulling to make himself unavailable for the tour of Ireland in order to make window for the IPL.

Nazmul said he is unaware of any such plans of Shakib.

“He [Shakib] did not speak to anyone [in the board] yet. I know he is fully available [for both home and away series against Ireland]. I can comment on it when he applies for the NOC,” said the BCB supremo.

KKR roped in Liton for the first time and brought back Shakib at their base prices of INR 50 lakhs and INR 1.5 crores, respectively, in the auction held in December last year.

Mustafizur was retained by his franchise Delhi a month prior to that.
