Bangladesh women’s team player reports fixing approach at ongoing T20 WC

A Bangladesh women's cricket team player, who is currently playing in the ongoing Twenty20 World Cup in South Africa, was reportedly approached by another player from outside the team for fixing, according to reports.

Bangladesh Cricket Board director and women's wing chairman Shafiul Alam Chowdhury Nadel confirmed that the board is aware of the incident.

“When this approach was made, the cricketer immediately informed it to the coach and team manager. They (the coach and manager) have informed BCB about it and BCB has informed it to the Anti Corruption Unit of International Cricket Council and they are investigating the issue. We will cooperate with ACSU regarding the matter whenever it is necessary,” said Nadel to the media Wednesday.

According to a report by private TV channel Jamuna TV, Soheli Akhter, a cricketer from outside the national team, made an objectionable proposal to Lata Mondal.

Lata, currently in South Africa, promptly replied she doesn't want to get involved with this kind of corrupt approach.

The report also included an audio conversation between these two players regarding this matter.

"I am not forcing anything," the cricketer in Bangladesh is heard telling the one in South Africa.

"You can play if you want. The fact that I told you, you can play this time, or not. You choose which match you want to play. You can offer the match. It is your wish. You did well in one match, you can play the next game, or not. The team management will let you do that."

In reply, the player in South Africa reportedly said: "No my friend, I am not involved in these things. Please don't tell me these things. I won't be able to do these things ever. I request you not to tell me these things, please."

BCB CEO Nizamuddin Chowdhury also informed that the matter is under ACU's jurisdiction.

"The ICC's anti-corruption unit looks after these matters. Our players are aware of their do's and don'ts. If there's been an approach, they know that they have to inform the ICC ACU according to the event's protocol. It is not a matter for the BCB's investigation. We cannot react or talk about a news report. It is very sensitive in nature," Nizamuddin told ESPNcricinfo.

Bangladesh have lost their first two games against Sri Lanka and Australia in Group A and will play their next game against winless New Zealand in Cape Town Friday.
