Dhaka Dominators finally moved off the bottom of the Bangladesh Premier League points table after defending 108 runs against Khulna Tigers as the third phase of the country's premier Twenty20 competition came to an end in the capital Tuesday.
Right-arm fast bowler Taskin Ahmed led the way with 4/9 as Dhaka prevailed by 24 runs to register their second victory and go sixth, consigning Chattogram Challengers, also on four points, to the bottom.
Only Tamim Iqbal (30) and captain Yasir Ali (21) reached double digit in a sorry batting card for fifth placed Khulna as skipper Nasir Hossain and right-arm pacer Al Amin Hossain complemented Taskin by taking two wickets each.
Nasir (11), Al Amin and Taskin (both 10) are now among this edition's leading wicket takers behind Khulna's Wahab Riaz on 12.
Earlier, player of the match Taskin (12) and Al Amin (10*) were among the three Dhaka batters to score in double figure, alongside opener Soumya Sarkar (57).
Soumya finally returned among the runs with his 45-ball knock, studded with half a dozen fours and a couple of sixes; his previous highest score in this BPL being 16.
Off-spinner Nahidul Islam caused the most damage for the Tigers bagging 4/6 while left-arm spinner Nasum Ahmed came up with bowling figure of 3/11.
Table-toppers Sylhet Strikers and No 4 side Rangpur Riders will get things going in the fourth and penultimate phase in Sylhet this Friday.
