Bangladesh Cricket Board is mulling to replace Bangladesh Test and ODI team head coach Russell Domingo.
Speculation is strong in the fraternity that the board has come to the decision recently and Domingo was given hints right after the conclusion of the series against India involving two Test matches and three one-day internationals.
Domingo flew off to South Africa back to his home right after the series where Bangladesh recorded a 2-1 win in the ODIs and lost the two Tests.
If there isn't a big change among the decision makers in the BCB, Domingo is at a situation of no return to the Bangladesh dressing room again.
Bangladesh will play their next international series, at home, against England.
The English side are scheduled to reach Bangladesh on February 20 next year for three ODIs and as many Twenty20 Internationals.
Though the BCB has not spoken on the matter openly, its president Nazmul Hasan hinted of changes in order to accommodate long-term plans for the national team.
“We are moving ahead with a plan and it's now a short-term plan. We are moving ahead with a long-term vision so if there is need of changes then we will have the changes,” said Nazmul to the media at a function in Dhaka last Monday.
It is understood that the BCB is unhappy with Domingo's way of work.
According to close sources to the policy makers of the board, Domingo is not being able to show enough managerial skills to inspire the cricketers.
There is also observation of the BCB that Domingo is mostly unavailable in Bangladesh when there is no international cricket activity.
It is understood that the BCB has already decided on the potential candidates who can replace Domingo but it is not yet decided if a new name will be appointed ahead of the home series against England.
According to reports, BCB now awaits on the decision to serve Domingo a three-month notice period before signing him off.
Domingo is contracted with the board till December 2023 and in case of termination the South African coach will be needed to serve a three-month notice period along with the salary for those three months, which is about $54,000.
In case the contract with Domingo is terminated and the board doesn't appoint a new coach ahead of the England series, Bangladesh will be guided by Sridharan Sriram, who ran the Bangladesh dressing room as the technical consultant in the T20 World Cup 2022 in Australia.
In case Sriram doesn't agree, the team will be operated by batting coach Jamie Siddons and fast bowling coach Allan Donald.
