Bangladesh's much needed victory during their first game of ICC T20 World Cup super-stage against Netherlands provided a good vibe and confidence among the team as they ended their Hobart part of the campaign with a good note.
The team has landed Sydney on Tuesday noon from Hobart ahead of their second game against South Africa at the Sydney Cricket Ground on Thursday.
Although the opposition was much weaker on pen and paper but Bangladesh had to battle a lot of off-field factors during their first game like finding the right combination, playing on a windy and cold condition, recent poor performances and that's why the first win was regarded extremely important.
The game, however, should have been won with a bigger margin as Ireland were reduced to 101 for nine and their last wicket partnership added 34 more runs which dented some sort of better run rate win for Tigers but a win is win which was crucial for the campaign.
During the last year's T20 World Cup, Bangladesh lost their first game of the campaign against Scotland in qualifiers and that loss was shocking to the whole team which shook the core belief of the group and the World Cup ended with horrible results.
This year against Netherlands the risk was there as the team has been going through a transitional period in recent months.
There are quite a few positive notes in the first game as youngsters stepped up to produce a team performance.
Openers gave a decent start and some young players stepped up when Liton Das and Shakib al Hasan got out.
Afif Hossain's 38-run innings was important as Bangladesh were on the back foot but he counterattacked and kept the scorecard ticking.
Taskin fired up with two wickets in two balls but other bowlers supported well at the beginning to keep pressure on the opposition.
One name must be mentioned as young pacer Hasan Mahmud bowled brilliantly in the middle overs to carry the momentum.
Hasan was the most economical bowlers for Tigers in the last game as he conceded just 15 runs from four overs and also bowled a maiden.
Although Bangladesh fielders dropped two catches, but the out fielding was good and all the players looked spirited through the innings.
Later in the post-match skipper Shakib answers during a question that Tigers are trying to create a good standard in fielding and working closely on that.
The next challenge will be the Prorteas at SCG and will be a very tough one.
South Africa have already missed two points in their match against Zimbabwe as rain had the last laugh in a curtailed match in Hobart.
That match started just few hours after Bangladesh's match at the same venue and Proteas were left frustrated as they were 51 for no loss in just three overs chasing 80 from nine overs.
Bangladesh will practice at the SCG on Wednesday morning and will hope to carry the momentum from their winning game to give a hard time to the Proteas.
