Mushfiq hits ton as bowlers dominate day two too

Bangladesh cricketer Mushfiqur Rahim registered his 15th first-class hundred but much like the first day, the second day too was mostly dominated by the bowlers in the second round of the National Cricket League Tuesday at different venues.

Dhaka Metropolis v Rajshahi, Tier 2

Replying to Dhaka Metro’s 134, Rajshahi resumed the day on 72/2 in Chittagong.

Mushfiq came out to bat at No 5 and struck a workmanlike 242-ball unbeaten 108, laced with half a dozen fours.

By the end of the day, Rajshahi extended their lead to 199 runs after finishing on 333/6 at stumps.

Chattogram v Rangpur, Tier 1

Rangpur resumed on their overnight score of 96/2 in reply to the 126 posted by Tamim Iqbal’s Chattogram in Mirpur.

The port city outfit did a good job taking Rangpur’s remaining eight wickets for 126 runs as the latter ended on 222 – a first innings lead of 96.

Left-arm spinner Hasan Murad finished with 5/46 while right-arm seamer Yeasin Arafat bagged three wickets.

Chattogram though were in trouble once again in their second innings as they ended the day on 126/6 with captain and wicketkeeper-batter Irfan Sukkur scoring the highest undefeated 50.

Tamim, who made 19 in the first innings, was dismissed for 21.

Chattogram only lead by 30 runs with four wickets left.

Dhaka v Sylhet, Tier 1

The capital city, all out on day one for only 128, brought balance into the game after bundling out Sylhet, resuming on 59/2, for 167 in Savar.

Left-arm spinners Nazmul Islam Apu (4/53) and Taibur Rahman (3/15) starred with the leather for Dhaka.

In reply, Dhaka cut down the deficit and took a lead of 49 runs at stumps after posting 88/2.

Barishal v Khulna, Tier 2

Barishal, resuming on 210/7 in Cox’s Bazar, lost their last three wickets for 38 runs as Khulna off-spinner Mahedi Hasan finished with 4/45.

Khulna trail by 79 runs as they ended day two on 169/8 in the face of some discipline bowling by Barishal.

Amid the wreckage, only Khulna all-rounder Nahidul Islam stood out with his unbeaten 181-ball 88, featuring eight fours and four sixes.
