Bangladesh drawn with Afghanistan, SL in Asia Cup

Bangladesh have been set in Group B and will compete against Afghanistan and Sri Lanka in the group stage of the Asia Cup 2022, scheduled to start in the United Arab Emirates later this month.

The men in red and green will begin their campaign taking on the Afghans on August 30 at Sharjah Cricket Stadium and in the second and final group phase game will face the Lankans at Dubai International Cricket Stadium on September 1.

In Group A India, Pakistan and Qualifier team will compete.

The six-team tournament will raise its curtain on August 27 with Sri Lanka locking horns with Afghanistan in Dubai.

Arch rivals India and Pakistan are set to lock horns on the second day of the competition, August 28 also in Dubai. 

Top two sides of the groups will proceed to the Super 4 stage of the competition where the teams will play each other.

The two teams who finish top in the stage will then meet in the grand finale of the tournament, set to be held at Dubai International Cricket Stadium on September 11.

The UAE replaced Sri Lanka as the venue for the Asia Cup due to the ongoing political and economic crisis in the island nation.

Sri Lanka will however, remained as hosts for the tournament.

Sri Lanka, the country of 22m people has been crippled by an economic crisis, with shortages of fuel, food and other necessities.

Asia Cup will serve as preparation for the Asian sides in the lead-up to the Twenty20 World Cup, slated to take place in Australia in October-November this year.
