Bangladesh left-arm pacer Mustafizur Rahman is working to better his economy rate outside the subcontinent.
Mustafizur has been part of wide discussions for his performance for quite some time now and this aggravated following Bangladesh’s second T20I of the three-match series against the West Indies in Dominica last Sunday.
Mustafizur conceded 37 runs in four overs and remained wicketless.
Speaking of his performance with the media in Guyana Tuesday Mustafizur emphasized on the importance of improving his performance in the format outside the subcontinent.
Bangladesh T20I specialist Mustafizur in the subcontinent has an economy of 7.38 while it is 9.12 in the rest of the world.
The wickets in the subcontinent assists Mustafizur’s bowling style as the ball grips and makes his cutters and the slowers effective.
The wickets in other parts of the world are mostly flat and favors the batters to score runs freely.
The fast bowlers to be effective need to have the pace.
“The wickets in Asia are one of a kind, but the wickets outside Asia are very different. Outside Asia, wickets are better and truer. You will see in Asia that it is difficult to score 150 runs in T20. However, even 200 outside Asia is not safe. That could be one of the reasons why my economy is increasing outside the subcontinent,” said Mustafizur.
Mustafizur bowled at a decent pace at the start of his career in 2015.
According to the bowler injuries have affected his pace and that he is working on this.
“After a year and a half of surgery, my performance was not good. But there is no end to learning. You can learn every day. I am also trying to improve and to be like other good bowlers in the world. I'm improving my fitness and trying to learn every way possible while taking the advice of the coaches,” Mustafizur explained the reason for not being able to maintain peak form.
