Bangladesh Cricket League franchise Walton Central Zone Sunday celebrated their double championship titles in the 2022 season.
Central Zone, featuring big name cricketers of the country, had won both the 50-over and four-day cricket version of the competition.
The win in the four-day competition was the third championship title for Central Zone, and first since the 2015-16 season of the tournament.
To celebrate Walton held a get together dinner at its corporate office.
Managing director of Walton high-tech industry PLC and CEO Golam Morshed attended the event as the chief guest.
Central Zone cricketers Shuvagata Hom, Soumya Sarkar, Mohammad Mithun, Nazmul Islam Apu and others attended the ceremony.
The team this season also featured Shakib al Hasan and Mosaddek Hossain who are currently on tour of the West Indies with the Bangladesh cricket team.
Central Zone team manager Milton Ahmed delivered the opening speech of the event and said, “This team are a family and it is difficult for others to win against a family. It is tough for the hard work and the dedication to go wrong. Our cricketers do not see it as only a team but a family.”
All-rounder Shuvagata, who led Central Zone this season, said it is not easy for a team to win both the championships together and that it has only been possible because of the harmony between the team management and the players.
“It is a matter of pride to win both formats of the tournament. Both the players and Walton officials were eager to win the trophies. All members including the team boys played their role well and contributed for the team and that got us the success,” said Shuvagata.
Wicketkeeper-batter Mithun had bagged his only double century in four-dayers in the competition this year.
“It becomes easy for a player to remain dedicated and make sacrifices when the team become a family. I am in love with this team and look forward to playing more for Central Zone. I am sure other cricketers want the same,” said Mithun to the media.
