Sylhet’s HP camp called off, players return Dhaka

The Bangladesh Cricket Board [BCB] has called-off the ongoing BCB High Performance Unit camp in Sylhet as the region suffers from massive floods. Out of four districts in Sylhet division – 89 percent area of Sunamganj, 72 percent area of Sylhet, 70 percent area of Habiganj, and 50 percent area of Moulvibazar was submerged.

The 27 cricketers of the BCB HP have already travelled back to Dhaka by road on Sunday. The cricketers were undergoing the second phase of the camp in Sylhet following the first in Cox’s Bazar.

BCB director and chairman of the HP Unit Naimur Rahman has informed the cricketers will now be given a break before resuming the camp.

“The boys [cricketers] are back in Dhaka and all of them are physically fine. They are in rest now and will be back in the field within next few days,” said former Bangladesh captain Naimur to the media on Sunday.

The BCB HP unit had fitness in Cox’s Bazar last month and then travelled to Sylhet for skill training which began on June 2. The camp was scheduled to run till July 6.

BCB HP will not be able to start a camp in Dhaka immediately given the facilities at Sher-e-Bangla National Stadium in Mirpur is already in use by Bangladesh Tigers cricketers. The BCB HP was scheduled to have their last part of the training in Chittagong which the BCB is now mulling to take to Khulna.

There is also discussion to arrange a couple of four-day games between the Bangladesh Tigers and BCB HP unit in Rajshahi.
