Tigers eye T20 series triumph against Afghans

After a comprehensive 61-run victory in the first T20I, Bangladesh cricket team will look to complete the job in the second T20I and seal the series against Afghanistan Saturday at Mirpur Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium.

The Tigers are in confident mood after ending their eight-match losing streak in T20Is Thursday at the same venue, and will name the same side with the exception of the fit again Mushfiqur Rahim.

If Mushfiq replaces Mohammad Naim, then previous match debutant Munim Shahriar will open alongside the in-form Liton Das.

But if Mushfiq comes into the side of one-T20I old Yasir, then Bangladesh's top-order will remain unchanged.

The Afghans in pursuit of a series leveling victory are likely to go into the game with the same playing XI.

Although the Tigers won the first T20I convincingly, Naim departed early, followed by Munim, who looked impressive in his brief stay at the crease.

Thanks to Liton Bangladesh had the platform to go past the 150-run mark, so the Tigers will hope the top-order fires Saturday, especially in the powerplay overs.

Captain Mahmudullah scored a brisk seven-ball 10 in the last game after the buildup was marked by questions being raised regarding his place in the T20 side.

The skipper will look to shun the critics with a big score Saturday.

Bangladesh's bowling is well looked after, with Nasum causing all sorts of damage in the first T20I, finishing with figure of 4/10 in four economical overs containing 17 dot balls.

The tall left-arm spinner continues his good run of form after also impressing against Trans Tasman rivals Australia and New Zealand at home before the 2021 T20 World Cup.

Ace all-rounder Shakib al Hasan was also his usual effective self with the ball Thursday, taking two wickets to go past 400 scalps in international white-ball cricket.

Shakib is the only left-arm spinner in the list.

Young left-arm seamer Shariful Islam has settled seamlessly in the Bangladesh side after his heroics with the U-19 team.

His latest assured display came in the first T20I against the Afghans so the youngster will be eyeing another good bowling effort Saturday and complement his senior bowling partner Mustafizur Rahman.
