Bangladesh Premier League Governing Council is likely to take legal action against the seven franchises and Game On Sports Management. In spite of several requests and attempts the BPL GC failed to bank the money owed by the franchises and Game On, the company that managed both the editions of the tournament. “We will assess the situation in the upcoming week. If we find things not getting better, we will call an executive committee meeting and take necessary legal action,” said BPL GC chairman Afzalur Rahman Sinha to the media yesterday. It was learnt that Game On owes Taka 190 million to the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) from the second edition of the tournament and have not paid a single penny yet. Though BPL GC has a bank guarantee, it didn’t cash the money for the sake of maintaining the relationship. But unfortunately the event management company took advantage of the situation and was careless with the deadline of the payment. It was learnt that Game On was supposed to submit a bank guarantee of Taka 140 million to BPL GC June 15. “The franchises are supposed to pay by June 17. So they still have two more days left to clear the debts. But I can’t find any activity on this by the franchises so far,” informed Sinha.
