Mahmudul Hasan Joy’s third half-century in the Twenty20 format lifted Comilla Victorians to a four-wicket win with a ball to spare against Sylhet Sunrisers in the last Bangabandhu Bangladesh Premier League 2022 game of the Sylhet phase at Sylhet International Cricket Stadium Wednesday.
The 21-year-old opener struck a 50-ball 65 laced with seven boundaries and two over boundaries to boost Comilla in their pursuit of 170 runs.
The Victorians got off to a shaky start losing opener Liton Das to right-arm pacer AKS Swadhin and Faf du Plessis to Nazmul Islam Apu early.
With the score on 22 for two in 2.5 overs, Sylhet missed the opportunity to get Moeen Ali out for none after wicket-keeper Anamul Haque failed to hit the wickets in time for a stumping.
With the opportunity Moeen partnered with Joy for an 82-run stand for the third wicket to get Comilla closer to the destination.
Moeen departed on 46 off 35 in the 14th over to Ravi Bopara.
Imrul Kayes was sent back to the dressing room three overs later before Alauddin Babu struck twice in the 18th over to create a window of opportunity for Sylhet.
With Sunil Narine in the middle the task was however, daunting – to defend 22 runs in the last two overs.
Narine remained unbeaten on a 12-ball 24 involving three fours and one six.
Nazmul and Alauddin finished with two wickets each.
Earlier, Sylhet were sent to bat first and had in-form batter Colin Ingram score a blistering 83 to propel the home side to a big total with Anamul adding 46 in 33 balls.
Ingram took toll of the Comilla bowlers hitting nine boundaries and three over boundaries in the 63-ball innings.
Star Victorians left-arm Mustafizur Rahman picked up three wickets conceding 23 runs in four overs.
