Nigar Sultana Joty's unbeaten 75-run innings clinched a last-over win for Bangladesh against hosts Sri Lanka in Tuesday's first Twenty20 international in Colombo.
Batting first, Sri Lanka posted a competitive total of 145 losing six wickets in their 20 overs.
Bangladesh bowlers bowled in disciplined manner to make the task tough for the Lankans.
Harshitha Samarawickrama made team-high 45 off 44 while Sri Lanka captain Chamari Athapaththu scored 38 after opening the innings.
Nilakshi de Silva was the other notable scorer with 29 not out.
Fahima Khatun led the charge with accurate bowling for Bangladesh that saw her take 2/20 in four overs.
Fariha Trisna, Sultana Khatun, Nahida Akter and Rabeya Khan also bowled serenely to bag one wicket apiece.
In reply, Bangladesh lost both their openers Shamima Sultana (five) and Rubya Haider (nine) within five overs and just 23 runs on the board.
But Bangladesh skipper Joty scored a brilliant 75 off 51 balls with seven fours and two sixes, while Ritu Moni also made a useful 33 off 23 balls with four boundaries to seal victory.
With Bangladesh needing eight runs in the last over, Ritu was run out in the fourth ball when the score was level.
Joty however, dashed Sri Lanka's hopes to take the match to the Super Over, taking a single off the fifth delivery that ensured Bangladesh's win.
Eventually, Bangladesh reached their target with one ball and six wickets to spare.
The second of three T20Is is slated for Thursday.
