Ruthless Tigers out to wrap up T20 series against Ireland

Bangladesh vowed to wrap up the three-match Twenty20 international series with a game to spare as they take on the visiting Ireland team in the penultimate encounter Wednesday at Zahur Ahmed Chowdhury Stadium in Chittagong.

The tie starts at 2pm and will be aired live on Gazi TV and T Sports.

The Tigers won the first T20I, which was marred by rain, by 22 runs through Duckworth-Lewis-Stern method.

The home side put up a hefty 207/5 in 19.2 overs before rain intervened, otherwise they were well set to eclipse their highest T20I total of 215.

Ireland managed 81/5 after the revised target was set at 104 runs in eight overs.

Bangladesh made their intentions clear that they will not compromise with the aggressive brand of cricket, racking up a record 81 runs in the first powerplay.

T20 skipper Shakib al Hasan revealed that this is exactly the cricket they want to play.

"This is what we want. It is difficult for one or two guys to always contribute, want this kind of all-round performance," Shakib said.

"We were not sure how the wicket will play, but we always want to be positive from the start."

Bangladesh openers set up the platform, adding 91 runs in just 7.1 overs with Rony Talukdar hitting 67 off 38 and Liton Das contributing 47 off 23.

Rony, who was adjudged man of the match in the first T20I, is unlikely for the second game after sustaining a shoulder injury while fielding.

Even if he is unavailable for the match, it should not bother Bangladesh a great deal as they have enough bench strength.

Before this series, Bangladesh whitewashed world champions England in a three-match home series.

The Tigers extended the winning streak to four in this format with victory in the first game against the Irish, which is their joint highest in a row.

If they win the second clash, they will set a new record.

Ireland's stand in captain Paul Stirling in contrast hopes to hit back in order to stay alive in the series.
