Bangladesh managed to hold their nerve and clinch a thrilling three-run victory over Zimbabwe in their Super 12 game at the Gabba Sunday.
Defending 150/7, Bangladesh restricted Zimbabwe to 147/8 to pick up their second win, move to second position in the Group 2 points table and in with a good chance to qualify for the semi-finals.
The Tigers are only behind leaders India with maximum four points but a superior net run rate.
Zimbabwe needed 16 runs in the last over and off-spinner Mosaddek Hossain conceded 12 in the end.
There was drama with the last ball as Zimbabwe needed five runs.
Mosaddek bowled a full delivery and No 10 batter Blessing Muzarabani missed it before getting stumped.
Bangladesh players celebrated and players from both the teams even shook hands.
The third umpire then gave the verdict that Bangladesh wicket-keeper Nurul Hasan collected the ball before it crossed the stumps so it was called a no ball and Zimbabwe were awarded a free hit.
Bangladesh had to return from their celebrations at the boundary line and Mosaddek had to bowl the last ball again and Zimbabwe needed four runs to win.
Muzarabani missed it once again as it eventually turned out to be a dot ball and Bangladesh won by three runs.
Right-arm quick Taskin Ahmed was the pick of the Bangladesh bowlers with impressive figure of 3/19 from his four overs, while left-arm paceman Mustafizur Rahman ended up with a miserly 2/15 from his four overs.
Mosaddek finished with 2/34.
Sean Williams top-scored for the Zimbabweans with a 42-ball 64.
Batting first after winning the toss, Bangladesh earlier posted 150 for seven in their 20 overs, riding on opener Nazmul Hossain Shanto's 55-ball 71, studded with seven fours and a six.
This was Shanto's maiden T20I fifty in 15 attempts.
Afif Hossain made a 19-ball 29 while captain Shakib al Hasan and Liton Das chipped in with 23 and 14 respectively.
Muzarabani and Richard Ngarava bagged two wickets apiece.
Bangladesh made one change to their playing XI as middle-order Yasir Ali came in replacing off-spinner Mehedi Hasan Miraz.
