Bangladesh tour of India uncertain

The Bangladesh Cricket Board was supposed to receive a concrete decision regarding the Tigers possible maiden tour of India. BCB president Namzul Hasan Papon’s visit to the neighbouring country to attend the final of the Indian Premier League, which was held couple of days ago, was hoped to bring news on that front.
The Boards acting CEO Nizmauddin Chowdhury accompanied the BCB boss during the trip. Though Papon was due to reach Dhaka yesterday, Nizamuddin came a day earlier and informed that there has been no talks with their Indian counterparts on the matter.
“The schedule was hectic and the atmosphere wasn’t right to talk on such things. Nothing happened while I was there. The president will reach Dhaka today, so I am not aware if he had any discussion on the topic with them (BCCI),” Nizamuddin told the Dhaka Tribune yesterday.
The Board of Control of Cricket in India has been especially busy for over a week now. The conclusion of the IPL, along with the chaos caused by “spot fixing” allegations, have kept them preoccupied. Meanwhile, the Board’s president, N Srinivasan is under pressure to quit after his son-in-law and the “public face” of Chennai Super Kings, Gurunath Meiyappan, was arrested for allegedly having links with the bookies. The situation is unlikely to have any positives for Bangladesh.
Back in April, presidents of the BCCI and BCB had discussed a possible tour on the sidelines of the Asian Cricket Council (ACC) executive committee meeting in Malaysia.
It was then said that BCB would receive a concrete proposal from their Indian counterpart. India hosted Bangladesh women’s team, which indicated the good relationship between the two boards.
It was said that Bangladesh would tour India only for a one-day series, rather than a full-fledged Test tour, for the Tigers’ first bilateral series against India in India.
Indian authorities are interested in arranging an ODI series against Bangladesh in light of the Tigers’ recent record in the 50-over format, especially their performance in last year’s Asia Cup and the 3-2 series victory over West Indies.
