BCB never tried to hide BPL doubts: Jalal Younus

The Bangladesh Cricket Board never attempted to veil the issue of the doubtful matches in the second edition of Bangladesh Premier League; rather, it was the International Cricket Council’s decision to start an investigation, said BCB ad-hoc committee member and media department chairman, Jalal Younus yesterday. “In February, ACSU (ICC Anti-Corruption Security Unit) likely had questions about a match. They visited the country a number of times since then. But this is the ICC’s matter,” said Jalal. “It is not necessary that everyone on the board should know about this. The ACSU members came on their own and took the interviews of a few players. This is their matter, and I don’t want to comment on it,” he said. A couple of matches in February this year looked mechanised. The matches, which the tournament champions Dhaka Gladiators lost, were suspected of being fixed, and were questioned by media, while BCB found nothing wrong. “We never tried to hide anything, or else we would not have spent so much to support the ACSU investigation. They are supposed to handle the corruption issue here,” said Jalal. Also the chairman of the Cricket Committee of Dhaka Metropolis, Jalal is hopeful to start the Dhaka Premier League within the given time. He expects the national cricketers, who had issues with the newly introduced payment system, will also participate. “We had a meeting on several agendas, including the budget. We also had to think of the grounds available to hold the league. We will make all of the decisions in the next three days,” he said. It was decided that Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium would be one of the venues for the tournament. BKSP is also under consideration, and, in case they fail, the matches will take place in Rajshahi and Bogra. One venue might be outside Dhaka, but has not been confirmed yet.
