Bangladesh captain Mominul Haque said all-rounder Shakib al Hasan will play in the first Test match against visiting Sri Lanka at Zahur Ahmed Chowdhury Stadium starting Sunday.
Shakib was initially ruled out after testing Covid-19 positive last Tuesday but his report came out negative.
The 35-year old joined the squad in Chittagong last Friday evening and also took part in the practice session a day later.
He batted in the nets for about half an hour but did not bowl.
The all-rounder was looking confident while batting at the nets and appeared comfortable.
Later in the press conference skipper Mominul also confirmed to the media that Shakib will play in the first Test.
It will be kind of a mini return to Test cricket for Shakib who missed five Tests for various reasons.
He missed the last Test in Chittagong against Pakistan due to injury.
Later he skipped the two away Tests in New Zealand due to personal reasons and also missed two Tests away to South Africa owing to family emergency.
