Cricketers under the Bangladesh Cricket Board central contract will have a 10 to 20% of increment in salary.
BCB cricket operations committee chairman Akram Khan while speaking to the media Thursday informed of the hike in salary of the cricketers.
BCB in its 10th board meeting Tuesday discussed the fresh contracts to be offered to the cricketers, and also talked about the increment.
The cricket operations is, at the moment, finalizing the terms of the contract, and is also in discussion with the cricketers over their choice of format they want to play for the country.
The decision from the BCB to increase the salary is being appreciated, given that there are several cricket boards around the globe who chose to rather reduce salaries and discontinue contracts due to the Covid-19 pandemic.
Sri Lanka Cricket is still in dispute over the new contract and salary where the players denied to sign the papers.
“There are boards which reduced salary of the cricketers and staff due to the pandemic. However, I requested our honorable president [Nazmul Hasan] for an increment between 10 to 20%. The increment will differ from player to player; we are still to decide on that. So far we have been given verbal approval on the matter,” said Akram at Mirpur Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium.
One of the 30 demands from the cricketers' protest against the BCB in 2019 was to increase the number of contracted cricketers to 30.
Though the salary has increased, the board did not meet the demand of increasing the number of contracted players.
In the recent meeting, the board had discussed of signing 18 to 20 cricketers.
