Mohammedan win super over, into Super League

Mohammedan Sporting Club Limited won the thrilling one-over eliminator, the first in the ongoing Bangabandhu Dhaka Premier Division Cricket League Twenty20, Wednesday against Khelaghar Samaj Kalyan Samity to seal their Super League berth.

In other matches, Legends of Rupganj beat Partex Sporting Club, while Lt. Sheikh Jamal Dhanmondi Club Limited prevailed against Old DOHS Sports Club.

Mohammedan v Khelaghar

Khelaghar batsman Masum Khan struck two boundaries in the super over of Abu Jayed to post a challenging 13/1, but Mohammedan batsman Irfan Sukkur struck a six in the first delivery of Khaled Ahmed to ease the chase.

He scored a single next ball before Abdul Mazid hit a two and a four in the next two deliveries to equal the score.

Mazid got out in the fifth ball, but Parvez Hossain Emon picked the vital single in the last ball to take his side home.

Earlier in the day, Mohammedan opener Mazid played a swashbuckling 57 off just 30 balls to help his side post 88/9 in the rain-affected 10-over per side affair.

No one else in the side could reach double figure.

Irfan Hossain bagged four wickets for Khelaghar.

In reply, Khelaghar opener Jahurul made a good start with 28 off 15 balls, and although Masum remained not out on 33 off 17 balls, the side could fetch just three runs in the last three balls of the innings to end on 88/5.

Mazid was adjudged man-of-the-match.

With the result, Mohammedan now have 13 points from 10 games and are in fifth place with one match to go, while Khelaghar’s Super League hopes are finished as they are ninth with just eight points.

Rupganj v Partex

Partex’s woes continued as the side conceded their 10th defeat in the tournament in as many matches when they lost to Rupganj by 21 runs at BKSP 4 ground.

The first four batsmen of Rupganj got scores over double figure after winning the toss but none could go beyond and as a result, their run rate remained low and at a stage were reduced to 81/5 in 13.5 overs. Sanjamul Islam, however, scored 30 off 23 and captain Naeem Islam remained undefeated on 29 to help the side finish on 131/6.

In reply, Partex batsmen failed even to score even run a ball and lost half their side on 47 at 9.5 overs.

Nazmul Hossain Milon scored run-a-ball 21 and Rabiul Islam scored 17 off 13 but those were not enough as they ended on 110/8.

Sanjamul was adjudged man-of-the-match.

Despite the win, Rupganj have no chance to qualify for the Super League as they have just seven points from 10 games and are 10th in the points table.

Sheikh Jamal v OLD DOHS

Sheikh Jamal picked up a vital 16-run victory at the BKSP ground 3 against OLD DOHS to keep their Super League hopes alive.

After winning the toss, Sheikh Jamal openers Mohammad Ashraful and Saykat Ali gave a strong start as the duo formed a 69-run stand off 44 balls before the latter perished for 37 off 23 balls.

Ashraful soon followed him with 26 but the following batsmen continued their onslaught to help the side reach 120/8 in 13 overs.

Anisul Islam Emon grabbed 5/23 by bowling two overs for Old DOHS.

After losing both the openers within 20 runs, Old DOHS pair Mahmudul Hasan Joy and Rayan Rahman stitched together a 68-run stand during the chase.

Joy got out for 33 in a crucial juncture of the game leaving the side needing 33 from the last three overs.

But the other batsmen, including Rayan, who eventually got out for 36, failed to keep up with the run rate and saw their side finish on 104/7.
