Khelaghar pick up maiden win

Bangladesh national team cricketer Mehedi Hasan Miraz and experienced campaigner Jahurul Islam helped Khelaghar Samaj Kalyan Samity clinch their first win of the ongoing Bangabandhu Dhaka Premier Division Cricket League Twenty20 Friday.

Khelaghar chased down Legend of Rupganj’s total to win by seven wickets at Mirpur Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium in their third match of the league, while Shinepukur Cricket Club and Prime Doleshwar Sporting Club won their respective matches at the same venue.

Chasing Rupganj’s 138/5, Khelaghar, who had won the toss earlier in the morning, lost both their openers for nine runs each to be reduced to 25/2 in the fifth over.

But Jahurul and Miraz formed a solid and well-paced partnership of 97 off 78 balls to navigate their ship close to shore.

Miraz, who struck half a dozen fours and a six, got out for 54 off 45 balls but Jahurul stayed not out till the end scoring 53 off 44 balls with the aid of thee sixes and equal number of boundaries to ensure the win.

Earlier on the day, Rupganj’s middle-order batsman Al-Amin scored 51 off 42 balls, Sabbir Rahman made 23 and Jaker Ali remained not out on 19 off 12 to compile a score which, in the end, proved inadequate.
