Shakib's dry run with bat continues as Mohammedan keep winning

Wicketkeeper-batsman Irfan Sukkur scored a half century to steer Mohammedan Sporting Club Limited to a six-wicket victory against Partex Sporting Club in the Bangabandhu Dhaka Premier Division Cricket League Twenty20 at Mirpur Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium Thursday.

With 158 runs to chase in 20 overs, left-handed batsman Irfan scored a flashy 29-ball 52 with five boundaries and two over boundaries with Nadif Chowdhury unbeaten at the other end of the crease on 27.

The Motijheel-based club reached the shore with 14 balls to spare.

Mohammedan got off to a decent start with the openers posting 29 before Parvez Hossain Emon perished to Tasamul Haque for 17.

But trouble struck Mohammedan after they lost captain Shakib al Hasan in the next ball for a golden duck, and add to the cricketer’s sorry state with the bat.

Shakib has been struggling to live to his name with the willow since his return to competitive action earlier this year after completing a year-long ban imposed by the International Cricket Council.

Off-spinner Tasamul picked up three wickets conceding 18 runs in three overs.

Earlier, Partex captain Tasamul showed heroics along with opener Abbas Musa to help the side post a good total on the board.

Musa was sizzling with his 44-ball 64, while Tasamul added 59 off 56 deliveries as Partex posted 157 losing half their side.

Mohammedan pacer Taskin Ahmed picked up two wickets.
