All-round Mahmudullah propels Gazi Group

The Bangabandhu Dhaka Premier Division Cricket League Twenty20 resumed after a one-day forced break due to inclement weather as three matches took place in Mirpur’s Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium Wednesday.

Prime Doleshwar Sporting Club, Gazi Group Cricketers and Prime Bank Cricket Club came out as winners in their respective games.

In the second game of the day, Gazi Group clinched a seven-wicket victory over Lt. Sheikh Jamal Dhanmondi Club Limited chasing 152.

Experienced duo Mahmudullah and Mominul Haque both scored half-centuries to guide them to victory with seven balls to spare.

Skipper Mahmudullah was unbeaten with a 62-run innings stroking four fours and two sixes, while left-hander Mominul scored 54 off 36 deliveries with eight boundaries.

These two registered a 97-run partnership for the third wicket after openers Shahadat Hossain (13) and Soumya Sarkar (13) got out early.

Earlier, Shekih Jamal scored 151 for the loss of seven wickets batting first.

Sheikh Jamal top-order got off to a good start as, at one stage, they were 99 for two after 12 overs.

But middle-order batsmen were unable to capitalize their good start and lost wickets in key moments.

Opener Saykat Ali scored 33 while other opener Mohammad Ashraful made 41 off 35 deliveries with four over-boundaries.

Mahmudullah notched two wickets conceding 23 runs and an all-round performance earned him the player-of-the-match award.
