Bangladesh won the second ODI comfortably by 103-run margin (Duckworth/Lewis method), and secured the three-match series 2-0 against visiting Sri Lanka at Mirpur Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium Tuesday.
The Lankans managed to score 141 from their revised 40 overs losing nine wickets, thus suffering a heavy defeat in the rain-affected match.
With the unassailable 2-0 lead in the series, Bangladesh are top of the ICC Men's Cricket World Cup Super League standing with 50 points after their fifth win in eight games.
Chasing 247 runs to win, Sri Lanka batsmen lost wickets at regular intervals against controlled bowling from their counterparts, and eventually managed to score only 141.
Mehedi Hasan Miraz and Mustafizur Rahman took three wickets each, while Shakib al Hasan bagged two.
Earlier, Bangladesh captain Tamim Iqbal won the toss and elected to bat first.
Bangladesh made two changes in their playing XI as Mosaddek Hossain replaced Mohammad Mithun, while pacer Shariful Islam made his debut, in place of Taskin Ahmed.
Bangladesh made a shaky start as Tamim (13) and Shakib (nought) both got out leg-before wicket in the second over bowled by Dushmantha Chameera.
Liton Das (25) once again failed to score big even after becoming set at the crease.
Mosaddek (10) also got out cheaply as he was caught by the wicket-keeper Kusal Perera while chasing a wide delivery down the leg-side.
Mushfiqur Rahim was batting fluently in the other end, rotating strike with ease to keep the scoreboard ticking along.
Bangladesh were 74/4 when Mosaddek got out, before Mushfiq formed a crucial partnership with Mahmudullah for the fifth wicket, just like the last match, and these two experienced campaigners put 87 together in a crucial moment of the innings.
Mahmudullah was dismissed in the 34th over after scoring 41, but Mushfiq held the innings from one end, and batted with confidence with the lower middle-order batsmen.
Rain interrupted play and the match stopped twice after 40 overs of the innings, but later Bangladesh resumed their batting at around 5:15pm local time.
Then Mushfiq picked up his eight ODI century with a boundary by leg glance during the 47th over, and it was a well deserved hundred from the right-hander under pressure.
Mushfiq’s sublime innings eventually ended as he scored a commanding 125 off 127 deliveries with 10 boundaries, and he was the last batsman who got out as Bangladesh’s innings ended on 246 from 48.1 overs.
