Bangladesh One Day International captain Tamim Iqbal has backed Mushfiqur Rahim as the first choice wicket-keeper for the upcoming ODI home series against Sri Lanka.
Mushfiq has played 224 ODIs for the Tigers so far, and he has kept wickets in most of the matches in his ODI career.
Mushfiq, one of the finest batsmen in the country, has often been critisized for his average form with the gloves as the wicket-keeper missed chances in crucial moments.
In the recently concluded ODI away series against New Zealand, Mushfiq dropped a few catches and questions were raised again as to whether Mushfiq should be relieved from his keeping duties as the squad also has other options in the form of Liton Das and Mohammad Mithun.
But ODI skipper Tamim has thrown his full support to Mushfiq as the wicket-keeper in the 50-over format, and assured that the experienced gloveman will be behind the stumps for the Tigers in the coming series.
“I'm very happy with his wicket-keeping. Catch misses or missed opportunities are actually part of the game. I know how much hard work he has done. I don’t think our team management thinks for a moment that Mushfiq would not do wicket-keeping. He will definitely do wicket-keeping in the upcoming ODIs against Sri Lanka,” Tamim said.
“If you mention catch misses, then you have to consider that he has taken some brilliant catches in his career as well. A keeper can drop a few catches in his 13-14 year career. I have complete faith on Mushfiq’s wicket-keeping, and he will be behind stumps in the next series,” Tamim concluded.
