Rubel undergoes op, ruled out for six weeks

Bangladesh paceman Rubel Hossain underwent surgery on his broken jaw in Dhaka on Wednesday and has been ruled out of action for at least six weeks. The right-arm pacer picked up the bizarre injury after colliding with a door in the team hotel during Bangladesh’s tour of England for the 2017 Champions Trophy. The incident occurred on June 15 following Bangladesh’s semi-final against India. Chief BCB physician Dr Debashish Chowdhury informed Dhaka Tribune on Thursday that the Bangladesh bowler has already been released from hospital. “He had depression fracture at the point of injury which has been operated and removed already. He has been advised full rest for the next two weeks after which he will undergo a thorough check-up,” said Dr Debashish.
“It will take something between four to six weeks for him to recover after which I believe he can get back to the field,” he added.
Rubel is set to miss the initial part of the national fitness camp, set to start from July 10, in the capital city. The BCB on Thursday announced a 29-member national preliminary squad for the upcoming two-Test match series at home against Australia in August and the tour of South Africa in September. Rubel played all four of Bangladesh's Champions Trophy matches but finished his campaign with only two wickets at an average of 95.50.
