Bangladesh all-rounder Shakib al Hasan will leave Dhaka for the United States in the early hours of Friday morning to be with his family after the Sri Lanka tour postponement cut short his plans of returning to competitive action from a one-year ban.
The ICC had banned Shakib for two years, with one year of that suspended, for failing to report multiple corrupt approaches, and the initial ban expires on October 29 this year, thus making him available for what would have been the second Test of the three-match series against the Lankans, part of the World Test Championship.
Bangladesh Cricket Board however, asked Sri Lanka to reschedule the tour at a later date, owing to the mandatory 14-day strict quarantine that the touring team had to go through at this point of time.
Shakib had arrived in Dhaka on September 2 after a seven-month stay in the USA alongside his wife and two daughters, following which he began individual training at his alma mater BKSP under the guidance of his long-term mentors and local coaches Nazmul Abedeen Fahim and Mohammad Salahuddin.
He was scheduled to continue that pursuit for a few more days before joining his colleagues in the island nation, had the tour gone ahead.
Shakib though has decided to cut short his BKSP stint, now that the Sri Lanka tour has been deferred, and will instead return at the end of this month, when his ban expires, for domestic cricket and national team training after spending some time away with his family in Wisconsin.
