Jayawardene in the running for BCB's HP coach job

Former Sri Lanka captain Mahela Jayawardene is one of the options the BCB is considering for the post of batting consultant of the High Performance Unit. It is understood that the BCB is in discussions with many “top notch” coaches from around the world for the posts of batting and bowling consultant. The appointment however, will depend on the availability of the individuals in accordance to the HP programme, according to a BCB official. A programme for the HP unit is yet to be finalised. Following his retirement from international cricket in 2015, Jayawardene worked as England's batting consultant in the same year and later featured in T20 leagues around the globe. The legendary batsman got his first job as coach of IPL T20 outfit Mumbai Indians and immediately guided the side to the title. Following his IPL success, the Lankan legend confirmed his second stint as a coach when BPL T20 side Khulna Titans declared him as head coach for the years 2017 and 2018. Earlier this month, the BCB announced a 24-member HP squad with help from the national selection panel. The squad was formed with the blend of mostly experienced players and talented young cricketers. This was done with the intention of preparing the national team's back-up players for the home series against Australia and South Africa tour later this year. At least four cricketers from the HP squad will be called up for the national camp, set to begin on July 10. The remaining members of the HP unit will be part of the Bangladesh A team who will tour Australia and England in order to prepare themselves for the 2019 World Cup. The board hired Australian coach Simon Helmot in a three-year deal.
