Khelaghar Samaj Kalyan Samity ended their Dhaka Premier Division Cricket League 2016-17 season on a winning note, thrashing Victoria Sporting Club by eight wickets in the last game of the relegation phase on Thursday.
Khelaghar came into the match in confident mood after finishing as champion in the relegation league to ensure their survival in the premier 50-over domestic tournament of the country.
The scenario was opposite for Victoria, who confirmed demotion to the First Division along with Partex Sporting Club.
The result of the game had no real value and it was no surprise to see both the sides playing their second string team. But what amazed many was how Khelghar humiliated Victoria, a club going as far back as 100 years.
Victoria batted first but only survived 18.2 overs to post only 46 runs, the lowest total this season. Khelaghar captain Masum Khan topped the bowling chart picking up four wickets in 3.2 overs conceding just five runs. Shafiul Islam also bagged four as only one Victoria batsman – Rubel Mia – reached double figures.
In reply, Amit Majumder struck an unbeaten 33 to take his side to their destination in 9.2 overs losing two wickets. Amit faced 29 deliveries and hit five boundaries and a six.
With this win, Khelaghar ended with five wins in 13 matches. The two relegated sides, Victoria and Partex, won only two and one match respectively.
